about the bandAll songs written by Laurel Lee Welch
Recorded with care by Mike Coykendall in Portland, Oregon
On all songs:
Laurel Lee: (Vocals, Rhythm Guitar) I started playing music with Greg and a couple of friends from Escape From New York Pizza in the fall of 2000. They kept wanting me to bring them new songs, and I kept needing to write them. I want to tour this year to see more of the country than the West Coast. Anyone know anyone on Austin City Limits? Sean Fong: (Bass) Folks, there few people in the world as hands-down-cool as Sean. He plays with Apeshape too, and rocks it, but oh, how he rolls.Greg Keil: (Acoustic Guitar) There is no good reason that Greg became a musician. Greg is a farmer and pizza server. It just happened. Thank God for that. Marci Martinez: (Drums) Marci was our first and our last drummer, and I think there had been a baker's dozen. She is on the Portland Rock Legend list for me, but now I'm supposed to still be cool and not mention that she's a freakin' star. Guest Artists:
Philip Aguirre: Philip played with us for a year and a half. It's hard to find players you actually like. His guitar solos are the quintessential versions for the songs. We thank him deeply, and we hope his mom is proud of him.
Dan Eccles: Dan played with us for over a year and is absolutely one of the coolest guitar players ever, dude. Now playing for Richmond Fontaine, he is far too busy to play with us regularly, but his solos on this recording are perfect.
Jesse Richter: Jesse is our guitar virtuoso now in regular shows. He had been playing with us for a short time when he recorded with us. We really like that pedal, bring it out and set it up!
Neal Gilpin: Neal plays about half of our shows. If it weren't for Neal, I know I wouldn't have played out as soon as I did. Neal fiddles like an Eastern European with an attitude problem, but he allowed me to request a style for the recording and he did it. Thank you, Neal. You're the Godfather.
Bev Edge: Bev, I hate not singing with you. She sang with us for two years, I think. Bev sings like a lovely bird, and has found much happiness and success singing with The Peasants, dang it.
Alisa Welch: My sister, webmaster, and band mate-in-law, sang several songs for this recording. Her voice is getting so much more character as she sings, it's very exciting to hear her here.
Elizabeth Welch: My sister, the beauty of the Welches, came in and sang for us on two songs. It was like old times, when we used to all sit on the kitchen counters and sing until the dishes magically washed themselves. I'm telling you, there is nothing like sibling harmony when you're singing.
